What is IQOS?

The Heat not Burn Approach.
IQOS is part of the Reduced Risk Products (RRP) family and it’s an electronic device that is used exclusively with specially designed heated tobacco sticks which gives a satisfying nicotine-containing aerosol without smoke, with less smell and no ash as compared to cigarettes.
Unlike cigarettes, IQOS does not burn. Simply put, there is no fire or smoke involved to get started with or during the heating experience.
How HeatControl™ Technology works.
While most cigarettes burn at temperatures in excess of 800°C, heated tobacco works by only heating the tobacco up to 350°C, which stops the tobacco from burning. By heating tobacco at lower temperatures, the taste of heated tobacco is released.

On July 7, 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a government agency responsible for protecting public health, made a historic decision concerning IQOS. It authorized IQOS and three HeatSticks variants, to be marketed in the US as a modified risk tobacco product (MRTP), with a reduced exposure claim.
IQOS is the first and only tobacco heating system that has completed the US FDA Modified Risk Tobacco Product application process, concluding that switching completely to IQOS reduces your body’s exposure to harmful or potentially harmful chemicals*.
*Source: PMI 3month reduced exposure studies conducted in Japan and the US in near real world conditions. These studies measured exposure to 15 harmful chemicals, and compared to the levels observed in smokers who switched to IQOS with levels measured in smokers who continued to smoke cigarettes.
No smoke:IQOS doesn’t produce smoke, only an aerosol, which dissipates quicker than the smoke released by a cigarette.
No ash:IQOS doesn’t produce ash, because the tobacco doesn’t burn.
